2024 - A Year of Growth

Triangle Trails: Celebrating 6 Years of Progress and Partnership

This year marks six years of collaboration, community impact, and incredible progress toward making the greater Research Triangle Region a national leader in greenways and trails. Thanks to the input and dedication from municipalities and corporate partners, we've advanced key initiatives that strengthen trail connectivity and bring us closer to our shared vision.

We’re deeply grateful to our Board Members for their hard work and support throughout the year. We can’t wait to build even stronger connections in 2025.

2024 Highlights

  • Southern Counties Regional Workshop (April 24th): More than 45 participants from seven counties came together to explore grant opportunities and discuss regional trail planning.

  • Great Trail State Conference (September 15-17th): With more than 370 attendees, the event was filled with outstanding sessions, networking, activities, and social gatherings. Board Chair Sig Hutchinson shared insights on building consensus for greenway development, and Program Manager Rashawn King played a key role in shaping this Winston-Salem event.

  • Rocky Branch Trail Clean-Up (November 1st): A successful collaboration with East Coast Greenway Alliance led to a productive clean-up effort at Raleigh’s Rocky Branch Trail.

  • Person County Rail Trail Field Study (November 15th): 23 participants from the northern counties discussed rail trail funding opportunities and rural collaboration.

Celebrating More Growth

  • Visit Raleigh & Wander App: Triangle Trails Initiative has collaborated with Visit Raleigh and Wander Map to launch Wander Destinations in early 2025.

  • Nash County Recreational Master Plan: Supported the development of a comprehensive plan to guide future outdoor initiatives.

  • NC State Parks Grants: Assisted local governments in securing funding for trail and park projects.

  • Feasibility Studies & Public Engagement: Partnered with counties and municipalities to gather valuable public input and conduct studies that shape local trail initiatives.

Looking Ahead to 2025

We are excited to continue connecting communities, protecting green spaces, and creating lasting outdoor experiences across the Greater Research Triangle region. Together, let’s build more trails, strengthen partnerships, and inspire even greater progress in the year ahead!

Enjoy a bright and trail-filled 2025!
